Optional Manuals

The equipment can be supplied with the following manuals:

Tutor's manual: The basis of a lecture course on process control and practice. Including operating instructions, experiments, typical results and answers to student questions.

Student manuals provide the basics of process control and practice.

Experiment booklets provide step-by-step instructions for performing the experiments, data to be recorded and questions to be answered.

Additional copies of the student manuals and experiment booklets can be reordered.

Description

The equipment is designed to simulate a common industrial process control application, namely the control of process fluid temperature to a downstream processing unit, where the process fluid rate may vary and where the downstream processor requires variations in process fluid temperature.

The process fluid in this case is hot water which circulates through the heat exchanger from a constant temperature water bath. The hot water flowrate is controlled by a manual control valve and read directly by means of a variable area flow meter. Cold water acts as the service fluid and its flowrate is regulated by a pneumatic control valve.

The outlet hot water temperature from the heat exchanger is maintained at a desired value by a platinum resistance thermometer in conjunction with a temperature indicator controller which adjusts the flow of the cooling water by means of the remote acting control valve.

A flow indicator controller is fitted to the PID cooling water side which can be used to investigate simple control of flowrate. It may also be used in conjunction with the temperature indicator to provide cascade control.

Plant operation is controlled from a free-standing control panel fitted with a mimic diagram housing the controllers, indicators and recording chart.

Options
