Heat Transfer - Heat Exchanger Test Rig
A complete teaching system
with comprehensive experiments, data analysis, tutor's and student manuals
if desired, and all instruments and controllers.
- Compares shell and tube,
coil and plate heat exchangers
- Investigates liquid/liquid
and vapor/liquid systems in co- and countercurrent flow
- Custom designed for technician/undergraduate
teaching
- Visual monitoring of the
process
- Easily operated and used
- No further development
work necessary
- Suitable for project or
research work
Specification
A QVF heat transfer teaching
system module comprising three heat exchangers; one coil in shell type,
one shell and tube type, both manufactured in borosilicate glass, and
one graphite plate type, each having a heat transfer area of approximately
0.5ft.2. Designed to study steam/liquid or liquid/liquid
systems in co- or countercurrent flow. Supplied with all valves, controllers,
instrumentation, service lines and supporting structure. Complete with
an installation and maintenance manual and tool kit.
Experimental Capabilities
- Effect of co- and countercurrent
flow
- Overall heat balance
- Determination of liquid/liquid
and condensation heat transfer coefficients
- Influence of flowrate
on heat transfer coefficients
- Comparison of thermal
efficiency and operation of different heat exchanger constructions
Water and steam is used in
all experiments but other chemical process equipment can also be investigated.
Optional Manuals
The equipment can be supplied
with the following manuals:
Tutor's manual: The
basis of a lecture course on heat transfer theory and practice. Also
including operating instructions, experiments, typical results and answers
to student questions.
Student manuals provide
the basics of heat transfer theory and practice with plant operating
instructions.
Experiment booklets
provide step-by-step instructions for performing the experiments, data
to be recorded and questions to be answered.
Additional copies of the
student manuals and experiment booklets can be reordered.
Description
The unit is fitted with three
heat exchangers, each of which is studied separately. Each heat exchanger
can be operated as either a steam condenser or liquid/liquid heat exchanger
in counter or co-current flow.
Temperature and pressure
indicators are positioned in strategic locations to allow the heat exchangers
to be monitored and basic heat transfer mechanisms to be studied.
An in-line steam mixing valve
provides a hot water source for liquid/liquid studies. Alternatively
the laboratory hot water supply can be used.
Plant operation is controlled
from a control panel fitted with steam and water controllers. A mimic
diagram of the unit is also supplied and this ensures simple identification
of valves and recording of plant variables.
Options
Either steam or electric
heating.
Electrical System
The electrical system can
be designed to meet your local requirements
